This era began with the last issue with staple binding. A year later, the first issue with perfect binding appeared and gave the side of the Helix magazine a flat appearance and no staples. The increase of the amount of money in the Helix budget as well as the hard work of the Helix staff gave the Helix Magazine a better look and an appearance more like a book, than a magazine. By 1998, the budget had grown thanks to the efforts of previous Helix staff members and Dr. John Heitner, all of whom worked hard to get budget increases from Central Connecticut State University.
