Writers may submit one poem of any length or style. Judge Nelson will select a winner and one finalist. The winner and finalist will have their work published on The Helix online as well as in the print annual. In conjunction with this, the winner will be invited to an event at CCSU.
First place will receive $1000. One finalist $100. Reading fee $10.
Poetry must be set in 12 pt Times New Roman font and should be single-spaced.
If you decide to write a new poem to submit, consider writing in conversation with one of McGrath’s poems. One may also take a line of her poetry and respond to it in a poem of their own. This is not a requirement. Whether or not you decide to consider connecting McGrath’s work with your own, all poems will be considered equally by the contest staff and Marilyn Nelson.
Any questions regarding the contest can be directed to helixmagazine@gmail.com
We look forward to reading your submission.
