My Private Absurdities || James Piatt

I  share my room
with a colony of memories,
they live inside my blankets and pillows,
and come fluttering out at night
when I dream.
They flit here and there
across my bedroom
scratching on the remnants
of my thoughts,
chewing up the day’s ebbing hours:
In my half awake stage,
I sometimes see them pinned
to the window shade
searching
for a way
to get away
from my lonely mind’s
private, absurdities.

James Piatt a Best of Web nominee and three-time Pushcart nominee, has had four collections of poetry, over 1525 poems, 35 short stories, and five novels published worldwide.  He earned his BS and MA from California State Polytechnic University, SLO, and his doctorate from BYU.
